Flight operations across multiple U.S. airports were disrupted on October 30, 2026, with FlightAware reporting at least 571 delays and 53 cancellations within the United States as of 9:35 a.m. EST. Globally, more than 11,410 flights were delayed and 521 canceled by the same time.

Weather Conditions Affect Major U.S. Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration identified weather-related reasons behind the disruptions. Low cloud cover was cited as a probable cause for delays or cancellations at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Denver International Airport (DEN), and San Diego International Airport (SAN). Thunderstorms threatened air traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), while strong winds were expected

to affect Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS).

Traveler Advice Amid Flight Disruptions

Travelers facing delays or cancellations are urged to monitor flight status through airline websites or applications. TedX speaker Eryn Gordon, specializing in ethical and responsible travel, advised passengers to approach cancellations as planning challenges rather than emergencies and recommended saving airline rebooking policies before traveling. Gordon also cautioned against immediately accepting the first available alternative seat, noting this could result in being stranded overnight at connecting airports with checked bags delayed.

FlightAware and FAA Tracking Efforts

FlightAware continues to track live flight delay and cancellation statistics globally, providing real-time data on

disruptions. The FAA issues weather advisories affecting operations at key airports to maintain safety and inform the traveling public about conditions likely to impact flights.
