At least 571 flights were delayed and 53 canceled across the United States as of 9:35 a.m. EST on October 30, 2026, according to FlightAware. Globally, more than 11,410 delays and 521 cancellations were recorded on the same day.
Weather Disruptions Affect Multiple US Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration cited low cloud cover as causing delays and cancellations at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Denver International Airport (DEN), and San Diego International Airport (SAN). Thunderstorms were forecast to disrupt flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Additionally, wind conditions impacted flight operations at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS).
Travel Expert Advises Strategic Planning During Cancellations
Eryn Gordon, a TedX speaker on ethical and responsible travel, stated, “A cancellation feels like chaos, but the travelers who come out of it best treat a disruption as a planning problem rather than an emergency. Screenshot the rebooking policy before you leave the house.” She also warned, “The trap is thinking speed is everything and grabbing the first seat offered, when that seat can strand you in a connecting airport overnight with your bag on another aircraft.”
Flight Status Monitoring and Preparation Recommended
FlightAware tracks flight delays and cancellations in real-time, providing frequent updates. Travelers are advised to check flight status regularly through airline websites
or apps and receive notifications for gate changes, delays, and cancellations. Carrying essentials in carry-on luggage is recommended to reduce inconvenience during extended delays. Airlines and the FAA recommend reviewing refund and rebooking policies before travel to handle disruptions efficiently.
