More than 570 flights were delayed and 53 canceled at US airports as of 9:35 a.m. EST on October 30, 2026, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. Globally, over 11,410 flight delays and 521 cancellations were reported at the same time.

Weather Conditions Disrupt Flights at Key US Airports

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified weather as the primary cause of these disruptions. Low clouds were responsible for delays and cancellations at Boston Logan International (BOS), Denver International (DEN), and San Diego International (SAN). Thunderstorms affected air traffic in Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), while strong winds impacted operations in Newark Liberty (EWR) and McCarran International in Las Vegas

(LAS).

Expert Advice for Travelers Facing Delays and Cancellations

Travel expert and TedX speaker Eryn Gordon urged passengers to treat cancellations as planning challenges rather than emergencies. Gordon advised travelers to screenshot airline rebooking policies before departure to better navigate changes. She warned against quickly accepting the first available seat to avoid being stranded at connecting airports without luggage. Passengers are encouraged to keep essential items in carry-on bags, monitor airline apps for updates, and allow extra time for connections in busy airports.

FlightAware’s Role in Monitoring Disruptions

FlightAware provides real-time data on flight delays and cancellations, enabling travelers and industry stakeholders to track ongoing operational impacts. Their data showed the widespread nature

of the disruptions affecting both domestic and international flights on October 30.

This level of disruption reflects how weather events continue to affect air travel reliability at major US airports. Passengers should remain vigilant and utilize airline digital tools to manage travel plans efficiently during such conditions.
