As of 9:44 a.m. EST on October 29, 2026, at least 374 flights were delayed and 59 canceled in the United States. Globally, more than 7,143 flights faced delays, and 558 were canceled, according to FlightAware’s live tracking.
Weather Impact on Key US Airports
The Federal Aviation Administration reported low cloud cover as a likely factor for disruptions at San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Additionally, high winds at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS) are expected to cause further flight delays.
Traveler Guidance During Ongoing Disruptions
Passengers affected by delays or cancellations should regularly check their flight status through airline websites or mobile apps. It
is advised to enable notifications for gate changes and cancellations. Those with connecting flights through busy airports are recommended to allow extra time. Keeping essential items in carry-on luggage is suggested to facilitate comfort during prolonged delays. Reviewing airline refund and rebooking policies before traveling can assist in managing schedule changes efficiently.
Expert Advice on Handling Flight Cancellations
Eryn Gordon, a TedX speaker focused on ethical and responsible travel, urged travelers to approach cancellations as planning challenges rather than emergencies. She stated, “A cancellation feels like chaos, but the travelers who come out of it best treat a disruption as a planning problem rather than an
emergency. Screenshot the rebooking policy before you leave the house.” Gordon cautioned against immediately accepting the first available alternate seat, noting, “The trap is thinking speed is everything and grabbing the first seat offered, when that seat can strand you in a connecting airport overnight with your bag on another aircraft.”
