InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) reached a milestone of operating over 1,000 hotels across Europe as of October 22, 2026. The company has added more than 210 hotels to its European portfolio over the past three years, reflecting over 25% net system size growth during this period.
Alongside its existing operations, IHG has more than 280 additional hotels in various stages of development across the continent. These projects encompass a broad range of hotel categories, including luxury, premium business, lifestyle, and mainstream accommodations.
Brand Expansion and Portfolio Diversification
Since early 2024, IHG recorded 36 brand launches in European countries excluding the Ruby brand. The company expanded
its portfolio through the acquisition of Ruby, a premium urban lifestyle hotel group, and launched Noted Collection—the 21st brand in IHG’s lineup—which has secured seven signings worldwide.
Key Properties Highlighting IHG’s Growth
The Hari hotel in Belgravia, London, joined IHG’s luxury lifestyle Vignette Collection, bringing the brand’s European operating hotels to 13, with 16 more in development. The 85-room property is located near Knightsbridge and Hyde Park. Ruby Lilou Hotel Marseille marks Ruby’s debut in France, situated close to Marseille’s historic waterfront. In Austria, the 195-room Crowne Plaza Vienna enhances IHG’s premium hotel segment in the capital city.
Growth Strategy and Market Approach
IHG’s European expansion combines newly built hotels,
conversions of existing properties, and the introduction of established brands into new markets. Conversions facilitate entry into prime urban locations where new developments face challenges, as seen in cities like London, Marseille, Vienna, and Madrid.
The company’s pipeline includes diverse accommodations targeting business travelers, leisure guests, and lifestyle seekers, supporting broad market coverage across key European destinations.
Tourism Context and Traveler Benefits
Europe remained the world’s largest international tourism destination in 2025, with approximately 793 million international arrivals, according to UN Tourism data. Leisure travel, city breaks, and business demand continue to drive hotel investment.
IHG’s expansion adds to the accommodation options accessible through the
IHG One Rewards loyalty program, which has over 160 million members globally, providing greater choice across price points and hotel styles.
