Norwegian Cruise Line began accepting reservations on October 20, 2026, for its sixth and final Prima-class vessel, Norwegian Bella. The ship is scheduled to debut in May 2028 with seven-night round-trip cruises departing from the Port of Barcelona. Norwegian Bella measures approximately 1,129 feet in length and has a gross tonnage of 170,000, accommodating up to 3,921 guests at double occupancy, tying it with Norwegian Aura as the largest vessels in the NCL fleet.
Norwegian Bella’s Mediterranean Itineraries and Home Port
Norwegian Bella’s inaugural voyages will feature Mediterranean itineraries calling at prominent ports including Civitavecchia, the gateway to Rome; Livorno, the access point for Florence and Pisa;
Salerno, near the Amalfi Coast; Marseille in France; and Palma de Mallorca in Spain. The ship will sail exclusively from the Port of Barcelona, Spain, which handled nearly 3.7 million cruise passengers in 2024, making it the busiest cruise home port in Europe.
Design Innovations and Expanded Outdoor Spaces
The ship boasts a pool deck that is at least 15% larger than those on Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Luna, addressing previous criticisms of outdoor space in the Prima-class series. Norwegian Bella also features Ocean Heights, a multi-level open-air complex spanning decks 18 to 21, that transitions from a sunlit daytime area to a vibrant nighttime social
venue with immersive lighting. Ocean Boulevard, a wrap-around promenade on deck 8, offers expanded seating, hot tubs, and an outdoor bar, complementing the Infinity Beach area with infinity pools and daybeds.
Premium Accommodations with The Haven by Norwegian
Onboard accommodations include nearly 2,000 staterooms with varied layouts from interior rooms to spacious balconies. The ship will have 159 suites within The Haven by Norwegian, a luxury ship-within-a-ship concept featuring exclusive access, a private pool deck, restaurant, bar, and 24-hour butler and concierge service. The Haven is situated aft and designed by Piero Lissoni, offering private elevators, outdoor sauna facilities, and separate family-friendly and adults-only zones.
Construction and Artistic Features
Norwegian Bella
was built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at its Italian yards, continuing the builder’s role in the entire Prima-class series. The ship’s interior was designed by a team of architects including AD Associates, Piero Lissoni, Rockwell Group, SMC Design, and Studio DADO. Its exterior hull artwork was created by Australian contemporary artist George Rose, who described the design as capturing the wonder of travel through vibrant colors and organic forms.
Traveler Considerations and Booking Details
All Norwegian Bella sailings will originate from European ports, requiring travelers from the United States to arrange and pay separately for transatlantic flights to and from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN).
Major U.S. gateways offer nonstop flights to BCN. Bookings opened 18 months ahead of the May 2028 debut at NCL.com. Early reservations are recommended, especially for The Haven suites, which typically sell out quickly.
Official Statements from NCL and Artist George Rose
Marc Kazlauskas, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, characterized Norwegian Bella as “the culmination of our award-winning Prima Class,” emphasizing how the ship integrates sought-after guest experiences within one vessel. Artist George Rose said, “Designing the hull art for Norwegian Bella was an opportunity to capture the sense of wonder that travel inspires,” and expressed anticipation for seeing her artwork come to life on voyages calling at
Europe’s key destinations.
Prima-Class Expansion Context and Industry Position
Norwegian Bella completes the six-ship Prima-class expansion that began with the launch of Norwegian Prima in 2022. It represents NCL’s largest vessel fleet alongside Norwegian Aura. Unlike its competitor Royal Caribbean’s larger Icon-class ships, Norwegian Bella targets the European market exclusively, contributing to NCL’s diverse offerings across the Mediterranean. Barcelona’s 2025 agreement to reduce cruise terminals may affect berth availability during Norwegian Bella’s 2028 season.
