Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Sun cancelled its scheduled port call in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on October 21 due to adverse weather conditions slowing the vessel’s transatlantic progress. The cruise ship departed Southampton, UK, on October 12, with stops planned at Le Havre, France; Cobh, Ireland; and Belfast, Northern Ireland before crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
Itinerary Adjustments and Passenger Impact
The original Sydney port visit was replaced by an additional day at sea, and Norwegian Sun proceeded directly to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The vessel will now arrive in Halifax at 8:30 a.m. on October 22, earlier than the previously scheduled 10:00 a.m. arrival. Departure time remains
at 7:00 p.m., giving passengers an extra 90 minutes ashore compared to the original plan.
All shore excursions booked through Norwegian Cruise Line for Sydney were automatically cancelled, with full refunds credited to passengers’ onboard accounts. Passengers have been directed to the Shore Excursions Desk on Deck 5 to arrange excursions in Halifax if desired.
Captain’s Confirmation and Safety Assurance
Captain Teo Radun informed passengers of the itinerary change via letter dated October 19. He confirmed that the cancellation was necessary due to weather conditions affecting the ship’s schedule and apologized for the disruption. Captain Radun stated there are no safety concerns for passengers or
crew and that the crew will continue monitoring weather conditions on the approach to Halifax.
Remaining Itinerary
Following the revised Halifax port call and the extra day at sea, Norwegian Sun is scheduled to arrive in New York City at 7:00 a.m. on October 24. The ship’s transatlantic route included European ports and two stops in Nova Scotia before concluding in New York.
