Southwest Airlines and American Airlines reported more than 2,000 flight delays across the United States on October 23, 2026, according to data from FlightAware. By 2:05 p.m., American Airlines had over 200 delayed flights at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), with Southwest Airlines delaying 70 flights at the same time.
American Airlines Faces Vendor Outage at DFW
American Airlines, the dominant carrier at DFW International Airport, was affected by a vendor-related technology outage that disrupted customers’ ability to book and check in for flights. The airline acknowledged the issue, stating, “A vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights.” American’s spokesperson
confirmed the airline was collaborating with its technology provider to fix the problem. By just after 2:30 p.m., American Airlines updated that the issue had been resolved and that its systems were now operating normally.
Southwest Airlines Delays Unrelated to American’s Outage
Southwest Airlines confirmed its delays on October 23 were not linked to the technology outage that impacted American Airlines. Despite causing some delays, Southwest’s operational impact was limited at DFW and Love Field airports in Dallas. The airline informed Dallas News that the delays arose from other factors distinct from American’s vendor problem.
Travelers scheduled to fly on October 23 with either carrier were advised
by American Airlines to arrive at airports early due to ongoing disruptions. While American dealt primarily with booking and check-in issues, the combined delays by both airlines affected thousands of passengers nationwide on October 23.
