Lufthansa Airlines will begin operating the first nonstop flight from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to Europe in May 2027. This new service will connect Columbus directly with Frankfurt Airport, marking Ohio’s inaugural nonstop flight to Germany.

Flights will run three times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing Columbus at 4:20 p.m. and arriving in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. local time. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will provide 287 seats, including 28 lie-flat business class, 28 premium economy, and 231 economy seats.

Route Connectivity and Regional Significance

The Frankfurt connection gives travelers from Central Ohio access to Lufthansa’s extensive network, with onward flights to

more than 130 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India. Daren Griffin, president and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, described the launch as a “tremendous milestone for the Columbus Region and Ohio.” Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group Vice President of Passenger Sales for the Americas, said the route provides a convenient nonstop connection for both business and leisure travelers.

Booking and Travel Benefits

Booking for the new Columbus-Frankfurt flights opened online on the announcement day. Passengers based in Columbus will have direct access to Europe without the need for layovers, streamlining travel plans. The service aims to meet growing demand and

improve international travel options for the region.
