Southwest Airlines and American Airlines recorded a combined total exceeding 2,000 flight delays across the United States on Friday, October 23, 2026, according to data from FlightAware.

American Airlines Vendor System Outage Ends Mid-Afternoon

American Airlines, the leading carrier at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), experienced a technology outage caused by a vendor issue that affected customer booking and check-in systems. The airline stated, “A vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights.” American Airlines worked with the technology provider to resolve the problem and issued an update shortly after 2:30 p.m. confirming, “The issue had been resolved and the

airline’s systems are now operating normally.”

Delays at DFW and Love Field Predominantly from American Airlines

FlightAware reported that as of 2:05 p.m. local time, American Airlines had delayed over 200 flights at DFW International Airport. Southwest Airlines had delayed 70 flights at the same time. Southwest confirmed its delays were unrelated to the American Airlines technology outage. The airline also noted that operations at DFW and Dallas Love Field Airport were less impacted.

American Airlines advised customers traveling on October 23 to plan for early airport arrivals. The carrier apologized for the inconvenience caused by the vendor system disruption. Southwest Airlines maintained that its own delays stemmed from causes

other than the American Airlines technology issue.
