More than 2,000 flight delays involving American and Southwest Airlines were reported across the United States on October 23, 2026, according to FlightAware. At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), American Airlines had delayed over 200 flights as of 2:05 p.m., while Southwest Airlines reported about 70 delays combined at DFW and Dallas Love Field airports.

American Airlines Technology Outage

American Airlines attributed its delays primarily to a vendor-related technology outage that disrupted customer booking and check-in processes. The airline acknowledged the issue in a statement, saying, “A vendor issue is affecting some customers’ ability to book and check in for flights.” The airline communicated

efforts to resolve the problem swiftly, adding, “We’re working with the technology provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Customers traveling today should plan to arrive at the airport early. We apologize for the inconvenience.” By 2:30 p.m. on October 23, American Airlines reported that its systems were operating normally following the resolution of the technical outage.

Southwest Airlines Delay Status

Southwest Airlines experienced fewer delays at DFW and Love Field on the same day. The airline clarified to Dallas News that its delays were unrelated to the technology problems that affected American Airlines. As of the mid-afternoon update at 2:05 p.m.,

Southwest had delayed approximately 70 flights between the two airports.

American Airlines remains the dominant carrier at DFW International Airport, making the operational disruption from the vendor outage significant for the airport. Passengers traveling on October 23, 2026, were advised by American to arrive early to accommodate the delays caused by the technical issues.
