Lufthansa Airlines announced that it will operate a direct nonstop flight from John Glenn Columbus International Airport to Frankfurt Airport in Germany beginning in May 2027. This marks the first nonstop transatlantic service from Columbus and Ohio’s first nonstop connection to Germany.

Flight Schedule and Aircraft Details

The new route will operate three times weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Departures from Columbus are scheduled for 4:20 p.m. local time with arrivals in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. local time the following day. Lufthansa will use a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft configured with 287 seats, including 28 lie-flat business class seats, 28 premium economy seats, and

231 economy seats.

Significance for Columbus and Ohio

Daren Griffin, president and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, called the announcement a “tremendous milestone for the Columbus Region and Ohio.” The launch of this nonstop route represents a major expansion in the airport’s international offerings, enabling travelers from the region direct access to Europe without connecting flights.

Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group Vice President of Passenger Sales for the Americas, said the service will provide business and leisure travelers a “convenient nonstop connection to Germany” and other destinations served through Lufthansa’s network.

Traveler Benefits and Connectivity

The nonstop flight to Frankfurt opens up access to Lufthansa’s hub, which offers

onward connections to over 130 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India. This route will streamline international travel options for passengers departing from Columbus by eliminating the need to connect through other U.S. airports.
