Delta Air Lines will initiate several new nonstop transatlantic flights starting in 2027, including daily service from Boston Logan International Airport to Reykjavík, Iceland, operating April 12 to October 30. The airline also plans four-times-weekly flights between Boston and Venice, Italy, from May 7 to October 29. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport will gain thrice-weekly nonstop service to Athens, Greece, beginning June 8 through October 28. Additionally, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will receive daily summer-season flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle starting March 27.
Aircraft Types and Cabin Services on New Routes
The Boston-Reykjavík route will use Boeing 757-200 aircraft configured with Delta Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin
sections. Flights from Boston to Venice will deploy Airbus A330-300 aircraft offering Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin cabins. Detroit to Athens services will operate on Airbus A330-200 planes featuring Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin options. Austin to Paris flights will be conducted using Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, also outfitted with Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort+, and Main Cabin amenities. Boston serves as Delta’s closest U.S. hub to Europe, positioning it as a strategic gateway for transatlantic travel.
Growing Customer Demand Drives New Routes and Hub Expansion
Delta’s addition of these new routes responds to increased passenger demand for convenient, flexible travel to Europe across
spring, summer, and fall seasons. The airline’s previous service to Reykjavík from New York-JFK, launched in 2011, marked the first nonstop U.S.-Iceland flights and underpins the expansion to Boston. The new Boston-Reykjavík service expands Delta’s North Atlantic network. Italy’s popularity among New England travelers motivates the new Boston-Venice flights, while Detroit’s new nonstop access to Athens represents a first for Wayne County Airport. These changes extend Delta’s transatlantic season, allowing customers greater choice in travel timing.
Delta and Airport Officials Comment on New European Routes and Benefits
Jeff Arinder, Delta’s Vice President of International Network Planning, stated, “Customers continue to seek more flexibility, convenience and choice when traveling to Europe, whether
they are planning a spring escape, a summer vacation or a fall getaway.” Sharon Williams, Massport Executive Director of Aviation, remarked that Venice’s addition strengthens ties between regions and reflects Delta’s continuing investment in Boston. Wayne County Airport Authority CEO Chad Newton highlighted that Detroit travelers will gain nonstop access to Athens for the first time, opening new business and cultural opportunities.
Extended Seasonal Service and Frequency Increases for Popular European Routes
Delta is also extending seasonal European routes in 2027. Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit flights to Rome will begin service in early March, followed by Seattle-Rome flights in April. Service from New York-JFK to Catania, Porto, Prague, and Copenhagen
will resume earlier in spring, as will Boston and Seattle flights to Barcelona and Atlanta to Edinburgh. Boston to Milan flights will increase to daily frequency in 2027. Detroit to Rome and New York-JFK to Copenhagen routes will operate daily upon resumption. These schedule extensions provide customers greater flexibility and more travel options across Delta’s North Atlantic network.
