Disney Cruise Line Japan will introduce Disney Imagination, its first Wish-class ship named for the market, in spring 2029 from Tokyo International Cruise Terminal. This will be Disney Cruise Line’s first year-round vessel based in Japan.
Ship Specifications and Design Origins
The ship measures about 140,000 gross tons and accommodates approximately 4,000 guests in roughly 1,250 staterooms, supported by a crew of around 1,500. Its design is adapted from the Disney Wish, which entered service in 2022, with modifications to suit the Japanese market.
Onboard Amenities and Entertainment
The Disney Imagination will feature approximately 30 dining and beverage venues, including three main restaurants. Entertainment options include theaters seating over
1,300 guests for Broadway-style stage shows and outdoor deck performances. The ship also offers dedicated children’s and teen areas and adult-only exclusive spaces. It will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
Business Partnership, Investment, and Market Focus
Operated by Disney Cruise Line Japan, a business run by Oriental Land Co. which owns the Tokyo Disney Resort license, the ship’s investment totals about ¥290 billion ($1.87 billion) plus ¥40 billion ($258 million) contingency funds. Cruise pricing is expected to range from ¥100,000 ($645) to ¥300,000 ($1,935) per person. The itineraries will primarily be 2- to 4-night sailings from Tokyo, targeting both Japanese families and international visitors.
Official Statements and Naming Ceremony
The
naming ceremony, held in Tokyo on October 14, 2026, featured Natacha Rafalski, President of Disney Signature Experiences, and executives from Oriental Land Co. Rafalski highlighted the expansion of Disney Cruise Line and the partnership with Oriental Land Co., emphasizing the opportunity to extend Disney cruising to new markets and Japanese guests.
