Southwest Airlines Launches New Nonstop Routes from Austin
Southwest Airlines has added three new nonstop flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Nassau, Bahamas; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Liberia, Costa Rica. These seasonal routes, exclusive from Austin, operate twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays from June 3 through August 2, 2027.
In total, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is adding seven new or returning routes this year, including domestic destinations Savannah, Bozeman, Sarasota, and returning seasonal service to Portland. Southwest also announced Saturday-only service from Austin to San José, Costa Rica starting March 13, 2027, along with the return of service to Puerto Vallarta and San Juan.
Tickets for the
new flights are already on sale. The airport expects approximately 143 departures on peak days next summer, Southwest’s largest Austin schedule yet. Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, said, “Southwest Airlines has been a longstanding and important partner in the growth of air service at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.” She added, “These new international routes to the Caribbean and Central America, along with expanded domestic service, strengthen our region’s connectivity and provide more options for both business and leisure travelers.”
Daniel Jones, Southwest vicepresident of network planning, said, “We are thrilled to bring this new service to Austin, where we
have been the hometown carrier in the Texas state capital for nearly 50 years.”
The twice-weekly weekend schedule suits weekend-to-weekend vacations but reduces flexibility for travelers needing midweek departures. These new nonstop flights provide direct access to tropical destinations and early planners can already purchase tickets covering the summer 2027 seasonal period.
