The Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center issued a ground delay program on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport due to low ceilings and adverse weather conditions. The delay affects flights departing from the contiguous United States bound for Austin.

The ground delay program is scheduled to run through early Monday morning, October 5, 2026. Delays are averaging about 66 minutes with maximum delays reaching up to 129 minutes. Arrivals are operating on Runway 36L and departures on Runway 36R to maintain airport safety and efficiency.

Flight Delays and Operations

The FAA implemented the ground delay program specifically because

of low ceilings combined with weather conditions impacting safe operations. The program manages flight scheduling disruptions by controlling inbound traffic into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from the contiguous United States.

This measure ensures that arrivals utilize Runway 36L exclusively while departures take place on Runway 36R. The ground delay program remains in effect until early Monday morning to accommodate weather improvements and safe operational conditions.
