Flair Airlines commenced nonstop service between Vancouver International Airport and Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) on October 3, 2026, establishing the first direct air link between Canada and Mexico’s Bajío region.

Flights are operated once weekly using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Introductory one-way fares started at $189 when the route was launched. The service connects Canada’s west coast to central Mexico without requiring connections through major Mexican hubs.

Access to Bajío’s Cultural Destinations

Guanajuato International Airport serves as a gateway to the Bajío region, providing convenient land access to culturally significant cities including San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato City, León, and Dolores Hidalgo. This direct

route eliminates the need for transiting through Mexico City or Guadalajara.

The Bajío region is known for its gastronomy, vineyards, historic urban centers, and cultural tourism attractions, which attract a growing number of Canadian visitors annually.

Impact on Canadian Travelers and Tourism

The nonstop Vancouver-Guanajuato flight reduces travel time and eliminates the complexities of connecting flights for Canadians traveling to central Mexico. However, with service currently limited to one flight per week, passengers face reduced scheduling flexibility. Missed departures could require waiting for a week or rerouting through other Mexican or U.S. hubs.

According to Guanajuato authorities, over 108,000 Canadian tourists visit the state each year,

making Canada a significant source market for the region’s tourism sector.
