Albania registered 9,443,700 foreign tourist arrivals in the first eight months of 2026, a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from INSTAT, the country’s official statistical office. In August 2026, the number of foreign visitors reached approximately 2.43 million, surpassing the August 2025 figure of around 2.38 million. However, the year-on-year growth in August slowed to 2%, the lowest monthly increase since the pandemic, despite achieving a new absolute record for that month.
INSTAT Reports Data Revision and Season Outlook
INSTAT excluded data on the nationality of foreign tourists from its latest report because of inconsistencies detected in information provided by
government sources. Tourism operators in Albania remain optimistic, citing expectations that 2026 will conclude with growth rates similar to those recorded in 2025. They anticipate the tourism season will extend into the first ten days of October, based on current booking patterns.
Shifts in Tourist Behavior and Market Trends
Tourism operators have noted shorter average stays by foreign visitors in 2026 compared to previous years. There is also a clear increase in the use of private accommodations such as apartments and homes, along with self-catering options where tourists handle their own meal preparations. Last-minute bookings have become more prevalent, and visitors from key European markets including Poland,
the Czech Republic, and France are displaying more cautious spending behavior. Despite this, confirmed contracts for future visits from these groups indicate sustained interest.

The total foreign tourist arrivals in Albania rose by 6.6% in 2025, reaching 12.47 million visitors. For demographic context, INSTAT estimated Albania’s population at 2.4 million in 2023, highlighting that foreign tourist numbers significantly exceed the resident population.
