Train services on the Cambrian Line between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury will experience cancellations and disruptions on September 26, 2026, from 7pm until 11pm.
Cause of Disruptions
The disruptions stem from a shortage of trains at Machynlleth Depot, where an unusually high number of trains currently require repairs. This has reduced the number of trains available to operate scheduled services along the route.
Replacement Transport Arrangements
Lloyds is providing limited rail replacement road transport at no extra cost to passengers affected by the cancellations. A replacement bus service will depart Shrewsbury at 8:32pm, stopping at all stations en route to Aberystwyth. Additionally, a replacement bus will leave
Aberystwyth at 10:27pm, calling at all stations up to Machynlleth.
Passenger Advisory and Operator Statement
Transport for Wales advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys as replacement buses take longer than the train services. A spokesperson for Transport for Wales stated, “Due to a shortage of trains at Machynlleth Depot, we have fewer trains available. Some services between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth will be disrupted. Our engineers are working hard to bring trains back into service as quickly as possible.”
