Foreign tourist arrivals in Albania increased by 5.3% year-over-year from January to August 2026, reaching a total of 9,443,700 visitors, according to Albania’s statistical office, INSTAT. In August 2026, approximately 2.43 million foreign nationals entered the country, up from 2.38 million during the same month of 2025. The 2% growth in August marked the slowest increase for this month since the COVID-19 pandemic.

INSTAT discontinued publishing detailed data on the countries of origin of tourists after uncovering inconsistencies in information provided by government institutions. Tourism operators in Albania project that total tourist arrivals for 2026 will closely match the 12.47
million visitors recorded in 2025, which represented a 6.6% increase over the previous year.
Changes in Tourist Behavior
Tourist patterns in Albania for 2026 show shorter stays on average. More visitors are opting for private apartments, homes, and self-catering accommodations where they prepare their own meals. Additionally, last-minute bookings and cautious spending have been evident among primary European source markets.
Tourism Season Extension and Market Interest
The tourism season is expected to extend through the first ten days of October 2026 based on current booking trends. Groups from Poland, the Czech Republic, and France have demonstrated increased guarantees and interest for the 2027 season, according to Albania tourism operators. Despite
rising visitor numbers, operators note that increases in arrivals do not necessarily translate into higher tourism sector revenue.
