An electricity supply failure between Stevenage and Finsbury Park on September 18, 2026, disrupted rail services in and out of London King’s Cross. The fault caused widespread cancellations and delays, with disruption expected until at least midday BST.

Impact on Rail Operators

The disruption affected services operated by Great Northern, Grand Central, Hull Trains, LNER, Lumo, and Thameslink. LNER services between London King’s Cross and Peterborough experienced delays and cancellations. Great Northern operated reduced peak-time services from Peterborough to London and between Cambridge and London King’s Cross. Thameslink trains were also delayed as a result of the power failure.

Affected Routes and Alternative Travel Options

Services running between King’s Lynn

and London King’s Cross operated only between King’s Lynn and Cambridge. Between Cambridge and London, tickets were accepted on Thameslink services to London St Pancras International, Great Northern to King’s Cross, and Greater Anglia trains to London Liverpool Street. Peak-time services between Hertford North and Moorgate also ran on a reduced schedule.

Overground Suspension and Thameslink Delays

The London Overground line was suspended entirely due to the electricity supply failure. Thameslink routes faced delays, adding to commuter disruption across affected network areas including the corridor between Stevenage and Finsbury Park.

Official Responses and Passenger Advisories

National Rail advised passengers to verify journeys before travelling amid train cancellations and delays affecting

London King’s Cross routes. Network Rail, along with electricity suppliers, engaged in efforts to resolve the fault and restore normal service. Passengers were urged to use accepted alternative tickets where applicable and monitor updates through official channels.
