Kenya has signed strategic aviation agreements with Emirates and Qatar Airways to increase Middle Eastern visitor arrivals to 50,000 by the year 2026. These partnerships were finalized at the Arabian Travel Market event in Dubai and aim to generate an additional KSh 15 billion in economic revenue.
Tourism Growth Targets and Current Data
In the 2025/26 financial year, Kenya recorded 20,480 visitors from the Middle East. Overall, Kenya received 2.7 million international arrivals in 2025, with tourism generating roughly KSh 500 billion in revenue. The country aims to reach a long-term tourism revenue goal of KSh 1 trillion by expanding into new source markets.
Shift in Marketing Strategy Led by Kenya Tourism Board
The Kenya
Tourism Board is spearheading this initiative by moving away from general destination awareness toward strategies that drive direct booking conversions. The board is leveraging the extensive hub networks of Emirates and Qatar Airways, based in Dubai and Doha respectively, to increase connectivity and accessibility for travelers from the Gulf region to Nairobi and other Kenyan destinations.
Air Connectivity and Target Market Focus
Emirates currently operates three daily flights between Dubai and Nairobi, providing consistent air service. Qatar Airways offers an important connection through its Doha hub, improving access to East Africa for Middle Eastern travelers. Kenya is focusing on attracting high-net-worth individuals from the Gulf region,
emphasizing segments such as luxury leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) to diversify its visitor profile beyond traditional Western markets.
Operational Coordination and Trade Familiarization Trips
The partnership agreements include provisions for Emirates and Qatar Airways to provide tickets for trade and media familiarization trips. The Kenya Tourism Board manages onsite logistics and arranges luxury accommodations for these visits. These efforts aim to enable travel agents and industry professionals from the Middle East to experience Kenya’s luxury and corporate travel offerings firsthand.
This integrated approach benefits travelers by increasing direct flight options and synchronizing promotional campaigns with airline schedules, facilitating more efficient bookings and
extended stays in Kenya.
Positioning Kenya as a Premium Tourism Destination
Kenya is promoting tourism products beyond wildlife safaris, including luxury holiday packages, beach destinations, wellness retreats, and cultural tourism. The country is also targeting the corporate travel and MICE sectors to capture higher-value visitors. The combined efforts of the Kenya Tourism Board and Gulf-based carriers aim to position Kenya as a comprehensive premium destination for both leisure and business travelers by 2026.
