IHG Hotels & Resorts is introducing the Staybridge Suites extended-stay brand to Australia through a major development deal with Australian developer ALAND. The agreement plans for the construction of at least 15 hotels totaling 2,000 rooms across the country.
Master Development Agreement Secures Exclusive Staybridge Suites Growth in Australia
The partnership between IHG and ALAND operates under a Master Development Agreement granting ALAND exclusive rights to develop Staybridge Suites properties throughout Australia. The first two franchise agreements have been finalized for Staybridge Suites Sydney Parramatta, with 130 rooms, and Staybridge Suites Sydney Leppington, featuring 112 rooms. Both hotels will be managed by Signature Hotel Management Group.
Strategic Locations in Greater Western Sydney Target Growing Markets
Parramatta and Leppington, both
situated in Greater Western Sydney, were selected for initial launches due to substantial commercial, residential, and infrastructure growth. Leppington benefits from proximity to Western Sydney International Airport and the emerging Western Sydney Aerotropolis. These markets align well with demand for extended stays driven by corporate travel, project work, and employee relocations.
Existing Partnership Demonstrated by voco Gosford Hotel
The collaboration between IHG and ALAND builds on an existing relationship, evidenced by the recently opened voco Gosford hotel in New South Wales. This property, developed by ALAND and featuring 130 rooms, is located in the Archibald precinct and demonstrates ALAND’s development capability.
Staybridge Suites Brand Growth and Market Fit
As of June 2026, Staybridge Suites
operates 355 hotels globally with 152 more in development. The brand targets travellers staying days to weeks, offering residential-style suites combined with hotel amenities and communal spaces. IHG aims to establish a meaningful presence in Australia’s expanding extended-stay sector by leveraging this brand with ALAND’s exclusive development rights.
Benefits for Corporate and Long-Term Travellers
The Staybridge Suites properties are designed to serve travellers requiring longer stays, including corporate clients, workers on projects, and relocated employees. The residential-style suites provide more space and flexibility compared to traditional hotel rooms, meeting the needs of Australia’s extended-stay market.
Executive Statements on Growth Prospects
Matt Tripolone, Managing Director for Australasia & Pacific at IHG Hotels
& Resorts, said the agreement represents a significant long-term opportunity. He stated, “Establishing a portfolio of at least 15 hotels and 2,000 rooms with one development partner gives us a clear pathway to build a meaningful position in the extended-stay segment.” Tripolone added that ALAND’s development capabilities and shared vision provide a strong foundation for sustained growth.
Andrew Hrsto, Founder and CEO of ALAND, described the agreement as an exciting evolution of their partnership with IHG. He said, “This creates an opportunity to establish a significant new accommodation platform across Australia. We look forward to bringing the first hotels to
Parramatta and Leppington and growing the portfolio nationally.”
