A person was killed after being struck on the tracks at Twyford railway station in Berkshire at 6:39 AM on 14 September 2026. The incident occurred west of London, affecting London-bound rail services.
The British Transport Police confirmed that paramedics attended the scene but the person was pronounced dead there. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Rail Service Cancellations and Delays
Train services were cancelled between Reading and London Paddington following the fatality, with delays to some trains of up to one hour. Major disruption was expected to continue until midday on 14 September
2026. The incident affected services on the Elizabeth line as well as the Great Western Railway.
Replacement Transport and Ticketing Arrangements
South Western Railway allowed customers to use tickets between Reading and London Waterloo on affected services. Local buses accepted rail tickets between Reading and Maidenhead as an alternative mode of transport. Replacement bus services began operating from Twyford to Henley-on-Thames from approximately 9 AM. Additional replacement transport ran between Twyford and Aldermaston, and services also operated from Maidenhead starting at around 9:15 AM.
The National Rail website provided guidance on claiming compensation for journey delays caused by the disruption.
