Later on September 1, passengers were informed that the entire sailing was cancelled. Royal Caribbean instructed guests to disembark by midnight on September 2, 2026, and to arrange alternative travel plans. A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean said, “To accommodate ongoing maintenance, we’ve had to cancel our sailing. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience and have worked with them to adjust their travel plans.”

The cancellation was attributed to ongoing maintenance work on Serenade of the Seas. The cruise line had previously warned passengers about maintenance concerns before the original August 30 departure. Specific technical details

Arielle Anderson, a passenger and lawyer from South Carolina, described passenger anxiety during the wait: “Everybody was kind of panicking, so we were all just sitting in one of the bar areas, and everybody was just on their phones.” Affected guests were offered a full refund for the cancelled cruise, 100% future cruise credit on their fare,
reimbursement for flight-change fees, and pro-rated refunds on dining and beverage packages. Some passengers traveled to nearby locations such as Whistler before boarding and to Bellingham, Washington, after cancellation to continue their holiday.
Subsequent Sailings
Following the cancellation, Serenade of the Seas departed Vancouver on September 6, 2026, for another Alaska cruise. Passengers on later itineraries expressed concerns about potential impacts from the maintenance issues, though no further cancellations have been publicly reported.
