The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for all flights bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on Sunday, September 13, 2026, due to thunderstorms in the New York area. The stoppage began at 8:18 a.m. and lasted until 12:15 p.m., halting departures destined for JFK during this interval.

Following the lifting of the ground stop, departing flights from JFK experienced average delays of approximately 15 minutes as of 3:30 p.m. The FAA attributed these delays to ongoing weather-related traffic management measures designed to mitigate congestion caused by the earlier thunderstorm activity.
