Metrolinx will reduce GO train service to Niagara Falls by cutting three weekday and evening trips starting September 8, 2026. The affected services include the 1:02 p.m. and 7:59 p.m. trains from Niagara Falls to Union Station and the 9:10 a.m. train from Union Station to Niagara Falls.
Reasons Behind the Service Reductions
These cuts apply during less busy travel periods in midday, evenings, and weekends. According to Metrolinx, the seasonal schedule adjustments are designed to provide recovery time after the increased passenger volumes from FIFA events. The reduced timetable will also enable crew training for one of GO Transit’s rail partners to meet future
service capacity needs. Additionally, the changes offer an opportunity to advance essential construction work during periods when trains are not operating.
Advice for Niagara Commuters and Expected Delays
Metrolinx recommends that Niagara region commuters use GO bus route 12 to reach Burlington GO, where they can transfer to the Lakeshore West line. This alternative can save up to 25 minutes of travel time compared to continuing the rail route from Niagara Falls. Passengers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes on the Lakeshore West line between Confederation GO and Niagara Falls GO due to speed restrictions imposed by freight railroad partners.
