Thirteen people were injured early Monday morning when a shuttle bus collided with a concrete barrier at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to The Sunday Guardian. The crash occurred around 3 a.m. on August 31, 2026, on the Departure Level 3 roadway of Terminal B.

Terminal B Departure Road Closure, Airport Operations Continue

The collision prompted the closure of Terminal B’s Departure Level 3 road, which remains closed due to the ongoing police investigation and emergency response. Despite this local disruption, Newark Liberty International Airport remained fully operational following the incident, with no airport-wide shutdown reported.

Flight Service Status and Route Operations

Flight operations at Newark continue, although there have been some delays and

cancellations. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported gate holds and taxi delays lasting up to 15 minutes. United Airlines maintained scheduled flights to and from Newark, including domestic routes to Dallas-Fort Worth, Boston, Washington DC, and Nassau, as well as international service to Delhi and Shannon.

Traveler Guidance During Localized Disruption

Travelers departing from Terminal B are advised to allow extra time for drop-offs given the road closure and police presence. Although some flights faced cancellations or delays following the crash, no comprehensive cancellation or flight diversion program was announced. Passengers with affected flights are encouraged to contact their airlines for specific updates and options.

FAA Statements and Ongoing Investigation

The FAA stated that Newark is operating with general gate holds and taxi delays under 15 minutes and advised passengers to rely on airlines for flight-specific information. The cause of the shuttle bus crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details. Injuries sustained by the 13 passengers were reported as non-life-threatening, with some sources indicating three suffered serious injuries.
