More than 1,700 flights were delayed and 115 flights canceled at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the cause of these disruptions was a shortage of air traffic control staff at Newark Airport.
The staff shortage led to extensive delays and cancellations affecting over 1,800 flights and their passengers at the airport throughout the day.
