The captain reported the missing person between 08:35 and 08:55 a.m. as the ship was en route from Lerwick to Dundee, Scotland.
Search and Rescue Efforts
An extensive search and rescue operation followed the report, coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, HM Coastguard, and Police Scotland. The effort involved lifeboats from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, Coastguard aircraft dispatched from Prestwick and Carlisle, and a commercial
search and rescue helicopter. Additional Coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath, and St Andrews also participated in the search.
Recovery and Passenger Disembarkation
The body of the missing passenger was recovered from the North Sea, with Police Scotland notifying the family while formal identification awaited completion. The Ambassador Ambition docked in Dundee where the ship underwent a full search by the crew. Passengers were initially instructed to remain on board during the search but were permitted to disembark around 11:30 a.m. following arrival in Dundee.
