The City of Winnipeg has introduced a new railroad crossing information system equipped with roadside TRAINFO beacons and digital message boards. These technologies are designed to flash warnings for drivers approaching rail crossings to improve safety and reduce delays.

Locations and Emergency Services Integration

Digital message boards have been installed specifically on Sterling Lyon Boulevard and Kenaston Boulevard in Winnipeg. The system is integrated with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, allowing their crews to access real-time crossing information directly from their vehicle dashboards.

Purpose and Impact on Traffic

The system alerts drivers in advance of train crossings, enabling them to make informed decisions about whether to proceed, wait for a

passing train, or seek an alternative route. This aims to minimize wait times and improve traffic flow near rail crossings. The installation forms part of broader rail safety upgrades being implemented in Canada.
