The Carnival Legend cruise ship experienced significant delays on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following a collision between two tender boats used for transferring passengers. The incident disrupted disembarkation and departure schedules on the vessel.
Tender Collision Near Guernsey Island
The collision occurred while the ship was anchored near St Peter Port on Guernsey Island during its 12-day round-trip voyage from Dover, U.K. One tender boat sustained a shattered window as a result of the collision, which temporarily slowed the morning’s tender operations. Despite the danger posed by broken glass, no injuries to passengers or crew were reported.
Passenger Impact and Excursion Disruptions
Slowed tender operations caused delays that resulted in
some passengers missing their scheduled shore excursions and unable to disembark before the ship’s planned departure time. One traveler confirmed their tender number was not called until after 1 p.m., making it impossible to join their excursion. Those affected remained onboard longer than expected while the ship prepared to depart.
Carnival Cruise Line Refund Policies
Carnival Cruise Line states that refunds or credits are not granted for missed ports due to uncontrollable factors, such as incidents causing itinerary changes. However, if shore excursions are canceled by Carnival or the tour operator, passengers are entitled to refunds for those missed activities. Guests must follow designated debarkation
times and cannot delay disembarking without forfeiting refunds.
Voyage Details and Current Status
At the time of the incident, Carnival Legend was operating a 12-day round trip sailing from Dover, U.K. Following the delays near Guernsey, the ship was en route to Spain through the Northeast Atlantic Ocean. During the voyage, passengers were also expected to observe a rare total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe, the first since 1999.
One YouTube commenter expressed sympathy for the passengers affected, saying, “That’s too bad those people missed their excursions. I hope they were compensated for the inconvenience plus the money back for the missed tour.” Carnival
Cruise Line did not issue a comment prior to publication.
