Southwest Airlines experienced a system outage on the morning of October 9, 2026, caused by a brief interruption with its vendor Amadeus, which provides the airline’s reservation system. The interruption disrupted operations across the carrier’s network nationwide.

Nationwide Flight Delays and Cancellations

By 9:15 a.m. on October 9, nearly 900 Southwest flights were delayed across the United States, and 43 flights were cancelled, according to flight tracking data. At Dallas Love Field, where Southwest has its headquarters, the impact was less severe with 56 delayed flights and seven cancellations reported by the same time.

Operational Impacts at Airports

The outage affected boarding pass printing and mobile app scanning due

to an intermittent internal network issue. Southwest manually checked baggage and boarded flights while working to restore full system functionality. The airline depends on Amadeus for key operational systems, which contributed to the disruptions experienced.

Official Statements and Recovery Efforts

A Southwest Airlines spokesperson said the airline faced a brief outage caused by their vendor Amadeus and ensured manual operations continued during that period. The spokesperson added, “We apologize to our Customers for any inconvenience and are working to get them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.” Lauren Rounds, spokesperson

for the City of Dallas Department of Aviation, confirmed Southwest informed the city about the internal outage impacting boarding pass and app scanning at Dallas Love Field.

Southwest Airlines is actively restoring full functionality and managing the backlog that resulted from the system disruption.
