The City of Winnipeg has implemented a new railroad crossing information system featuring roadside TRAINFO beacons and digital message boards. The system is designed to alert drivers ahead of rail crossings by flashing signals.

Installation Locations and Emergency Response Access

Digital message boards have been installed on Sterling Lyon and Kenaston Boulevards, identified as high-traffic locations by the City of Winnipeg. The system also provides Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews with crossing status directly accessible from their vehicle dashboards.

Purpose and Safety Impact of the System

The flashing TRAINFO beacons and message boards give motorists advance notice of approaching trains, enabling safer decisions such as rerouting or waiting, thereby reducing delays. This installation

is part of a broader rail infrastructure upgrade aiming to enhance safety for drivers, pedestrians, and emergency responders in Winnipeg.
