British mid-market hotel brand Premier Inn, owned by Whitbread, currently operates 11 properties across the UAE and Qatar. These include seven hotels in Dubai, two in Abu Dhabi, and two in Doha.

Occupancy and Revenue Impact From U.S.-Iran Conflict

Premier Inn’s Middle East business saw its occupancy plummet to 50% in March 2026, affected directly by the outbreak of the U.S.-Iran war. Occupancy levels remained similarly low through April and May. A recovery took hold in June, with occupancy reaching 78% by July. Revenue experienced a steep decline, dropping 68% in April but improving to a reduction of only 11% by July 2026.

Mid-Market Hotels Outperform Luxury in Gulf Region

According to industry research,

mid-market hotels like Premier Inn sustained higher occupancy during the crisis compared to luxury competitors, which largely focused on maintaining rate levels. This divergence between hotel segments was notable across Gulf markets between March and June 2026.

Expansion Plans Continue Amid Market Challenges

Premier Inn’s managing director for the Middle East, Simon Leigh, confirmed that the brand is continuing its expansion plans in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The growth reflects sustained hotel demand in these Gulf markets despite geopolitical tensions, underpinning a resilient mid-market hospitality segment in the region.
