JW Marriott opened its inaugural all-inclusive property, JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa, in October 2026. Located in Guanacaste on Costa Rica’s northwest coast, the resort was developed by Mullen Real Estate Capital through a reimagining of the former Dreams Las Mareas Costa Rica property.
JW Marriott Costa Elena features 415 guest rooms and incorporates architectural designs inspired by Costa Rican traditions and those of the Indigenous Bribri and Cabécar peoples. The property includes the Griffin Club, a hotel-within-a-hotel offering additional privacy, butler services, a dedicated pool, beach access, and a 24/7 lounge. Marriott describes the resort’s extensive pool
area as “the largest resort poolscape in Costa Rica,” covering 44,000 square feet. Additional facilities include pool cabanas, a large garden, a modern fitness center, a kids club, and family programs available through the Family by JW initiative.
Dining options at Costa Elena consist of 15 bars, restaurants, and culinary venues featuring international buffets, Japanese, seafood, Italian, and Costa Rican cuisines. The resort operates a culinary school that provides interactive cooking sessions focused on local dishes and culinary skills. JW Marriott Costa Elena also houses JW Marriott’s first stand-alone root beer stand. Families can access enrichment and wellness activities through
the Family by JW Club, while the resort offers a full calendar of activities such as weekly local shopping markets and guided kayaking.
Rates for stays at JW Marriott Costa Elena start at $656 per night for two guests through the end of 2026. Marriott Bonvoy members can redeem points from 110,000 per night to book accommodations at the resort. Amenities include the 9,000 square foot Spa by JW offering various body treatments, massages, and kid-friendly options. The property also features JW Marriott’s first dedicated Mindfulness House, a wellness sanctuary set beside a native Guanacaste tree.
