Ghana received 1,303,962 international tourists in 2025, earning approximately $4.34 billion in tourism revenue, according to figures revealed by Minister Dzifa Abla Gomashie. This marked an increase from 1,288,804 international arrivals in 2024.
Domestic tourism visits rose by 7%, from 1.68 million in 2024 to 1.79 million in 2025, signaling expanding local engagement with the sector.
Top Tourist Attractions and Site Management
The ten most visited tourist sites in Ghana recorded a combined total of 1,377,588 visits in 2025. These sites accounted for about 27% of all tourism site visits nationwide.
This list includes the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Kakum National Park, Bunso Arboretum Eco Park,
Cape Coast Castle, Manhyia Palace, Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve, and Aburi Botanical Garden.
Only three of these top ten attractions fall under the direct management of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts. The majority are overseen by various other institutions, highlighting the complexity and need for improved coordination in tourism site management.
Creative Arts Fund and National Theatre Strategic Plan
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is establishing a Creative Arts Fund to bolster Ghana’s creative industry. Minister Gomashie stated this fund aims to stimulate production, enhance content quality, create employment opportunities, and reinforce intellectual property protection within
local and international markets.
To operationalize the fund, the Ministry is collaborating with Ghana’s Attorney-General’s Ministry.
In March 2026, a strategic plan for the National Theatre of Ghana covering the 2026-2030 period was launched to guide the theatre’s management and development. The plan is intended to improve the National Theatre’s contribution to Ghana’s tourism, cultural, and creative sectors.
Additionally, a German theatre group donated a 40-foot container outfitted with lighting and sound equipment to enhance the National Theatre’s technical capability, supporting better performance environments.
Tourism Growth Drivers and Official Statements
The increase in international arrivals and domestic visits reflects sustained interest in Ghana as a tourist
destination and signifies the tourism sector’s growing role in the national economy.
Minister Dzifa Abla Gomashie confirmed the reported 2025 figures and emphasized their relevance to the sector’s development.
She said, “The fund is anticipated to catalyse production activity, improve content quality, create jobs, strengthen Ghana’s intellectual property for both domestic and international markets.”
Regarding the National Theatre strategic plan, Minister Gomashie added, “We have successfully crafted a strategic plan 2026 to 2030 to guide the running of the National Theatre of Ghana and ensure its optimal contribution to the tourism, culture, and creative arts industry.”
