Kaitāia Airport in New Zealand had been closed due to an extensive runway upgrade project aimed at refurbishing its infrastructure. This closure affected the airport’s operational capabilities as the renovation work was underway.

On 20 May 2026, the airport officially resumed operations. The completion of the runway enhancement has restored full airport functionality, allowing flights to operate without the previous restrictions caused by the closure.
