The 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) will take place from October 6 to October 8, 2026, at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Kenya. The event is set to attract more than 10,000 delegates representing 40 countries, marking the highest attendance in the event’s history.

MKTE 2026 will feature over 400 exhibitors alongside more than 250 internationally vetted buyers. This turnout represents an approximate 30% increase from the 7,691 delegates recorded at MKTE 2025, reinforcing the event’s status as East Africa’s premier travel trade expo.

Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence Focus

The expo’s theme, “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” aligns with the

global spotlight on digital innovation for World Tourism Day 2026. Sessions will highlight technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, immersive experiences, digital payment platforms, and smart destination management tools aimed at enhancing Kenya’s tourism competitiveness and visitor experience.

Emphasis on MICE Sector Development

MKTE 2026 will dedicate significant attention to Kenya’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. The Kenya MICE Club, in partnership with government bodies and the private sector, is developing competitive bidding packages that include destination incentives. Duncan Muriuki, Chair of the Kenya MICE Association, stated that MICE represents a strategic avenue for increasing tourism revenue through high-value business events

that encourage extended stays in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Government Reforms Supporting Tourism Growth

Raymond Cheruiyot, Chair of the Tour Operators Society of Kenya, emphasized that government initiatives improving visa access and expanding air connectivity have created a strong foundation for tourism expansion. These reforms aim to simplify travel logistics for international visitors and enhance Kenya’s accessibility in the global travel market.

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei highlighted that every aspect of the MKTE program is guided by data and consumer demand intelligence. “We know what the interests of our visitors are and what it takes to convert interest into arrivals,” she

said, emphasizing the role of MKTE as a platform for implementing targeted marketing strategies domestically and internationally.

Programming and Strategic Objectives

The event will include seminars, business-to-business meetings, and familiarisation trips designed to strengthen industry partnerships and facilitate trade opportunities. MKTE 2026 aims to leverage digital innovation to ensure inclusive growth and competitiveness in Kenya’s tourism sector.

With over 40 countries participating, MKTE 2026 supports Kenya’s wider objective of attracting five million international visitors by the end of 2027. The Kenya Tourism Board credits the success of MKTE to strong public-private partnerships and strategic alignment with global tourism trends.

As East Africa’s leading travel

trade event, MKTE 2026 exemplifies Kenya’s commitment to integrating technology and collaborative efforts to advance its position in the international tourism market.
