The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) began deploying the V-Pass biometric facial recognition system at Nigerian domestic airports starting July 2026. The system was developed through a public-private partnership with Verxid Technologies and is provided by Barnksforte Technologies, based in Abuja, Nigeria.

V-Pass Coverage and Deployment Timeline

V-Pass is operational across Nigerian domestic airports from July 2026. This rollout focuses exclusively on domestic flight terminals within Nigeria, with no information on international airport deployment at this time.

System Capabilities and Security Objectives

V-Pass utilizes facial recognition technology to verify identities of domestic passengers upon airport access. It incorporates a Central Management System that monitors passenger movement and produces analytics.

This technology aims to strengthen security measures and speed up passenger processing at Nigerian airports.

Impact on Domestic Travelers

Domestic travelers using Nigerian airports will experience quicker identity verification starting July 2026 due to biometric facial recognition. This reduces the time spent in verification queues, enabling faster boarding procedures for domestic flights.

Global Biometric Adoption Context

According to industry data, more than 43% of airports worldwide have implemented biometric boarding systems. By 2027, three-quarters of airports are expected to deploy biometric technologies throughout the passenger journey including check-in, baggage handling, boarding, and border control. However, challenges remain in creating interoperable biometric credential ecosystems due to unresolved governance, liability,

funding, and ownership issues.

FAAN’s V-Pass rollout aligns with this global trend and represents part of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda employing biometric innovation to enhance airport security and operational efficiency.
