While navigating near Mexico’s Caribbean coast off Cancún, a crew member went overboard during the weekend, prompting an emergency response.
Search-and-Rescue Operation Involving Multiple Parties
The ship’s crew initiated a search-and-rescue operation immediately upon noticing the incident. Mexican maritime authorities joined efforts along with assistance from the nearby Carnival Jubilee cruise ship. The Regal Princess slowed down and executed several circles in the area, continuing the search for approximately eight hours. Passenger David Jimenez reported the ship repeatedly slowed and
circled during the operation.
Official Confirmation, Passenger Impact, and Support Services
Princess Cruises officially confirmed the death of the crew member on Monday, July 13, 2026. The company expressed condolences, stating, “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time,” and announced grief support services are available for both guests and crew affected by the incident. The scheduled port call at Cozumel, Mexico was postponed due to the delay and rescheduled for Thursday, July 16.
Voyage Resumption and Upcoming Itinerary
Following the search and official announcements, the Regal Princess resumed its voyage, leaving the waters off Cancún to continue on its planned route. The ship proceeded
to Belize before eventually returning to Florida on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as originally scheduled.
Princess Cruises also extended thanks to the crew of the Carnival Jubilee and Mexican authorities for their cooperation during the search efforts.
