WestJet is cancelling its direct flights from St. John’s Airport (YYT) to Tampa and Orlando, Florida, effective July 16, 2026. This termination affects all services on these routes starting immediately, impacting travelers on these direct connections.
These direct flights will not resume in spring 2027. WestJet attributes the discontinuation to insufficient passenger demand during the last season, which made the routes unsustainable.
Passengers planning to travel from St. John’s to Tampa or Orlando are advised by WestJet to connect through Toronto Pearson International Airport for these destinations.
Upcoming WestJet Flight Attendant Labor Dispute
Separately, WestJet flight attendants may initiate a strike within three weeks if contract
negotiations over unpaid work claims fail to reach an agreement. This potential industrial action could affect broader WestJet operations beyond the flight cancellations from St. John’s.
