The Regal Princess departed Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on a Saturday, embarking on a seven-day Western Caribbean itinerary that includes Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. The ship was en route to its scheduled stop in Cozumel when the incident occurred in Mexican waters.

Search and Rescue Operation

An extensive search involving the Regal Princess, another cruise ship, and Mexican maritime authorities lasted over eight hours. Despite the intense efforts, the crew member

was not recovered.

Passenger Accounts and Communication

Passenger David Jimenez described that the ship’s captain announced the overboard situation to passengers soon after it happened. The ship slowed and maneuvered in circles during the search, returning repeatedly to the search area. Passengers received hourly updates, but no details about the crew member’s identity were released.

Cruise Itinerary Changes and Official Response

The scheduled stop in Cozumel was canceled due to the incident. Princess Cruises provided onboard support and counseling services to passengers. The cruise line stated, “Our thoughts are with the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by this situation,” confirming established response procedures were followed throughout.
