A crew member from Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess died after going overboard while the ship was sailing off Mexico’s Caribbean coast on July 11, 2026. The incident occurred shortly after the cruise ship departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on a seven-day Western Caribbean itinerary. Despite an extensive search-and-rescue operation lasting more than eight hours, the crew member was confirmed deceased.

Cruise Itinerary and Passenger Impact

The Regal Princess had embarked on a seven-day Western Caribbean route that included stops in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. Scheduled to call on Cozumel, Mexico, the ship canceled this port of call due to the overboard incident.

Passengers were informed hourly about the situation, and counseling services were made available onboard to support those affected.

Official and Passenger Responses

Princess Cruises confirmed the fatality and expressed condolences to the crew member’s family and all impacted. The cruise line stated it is providing support to the onboard team during the aftermath. Passenger David Jimenez, who was aboard the Regal Princess, reported the ship slowed and circled repeatedly to search the area. Jimenez said, “But after searching intensely for over eight hours, the cruise line confirmed the crew member had perished.” He added that no details about the identity of the crew member

were disclosed.

Search-and-Rescue Efforts

The search effort involved the Regal Princess itself, another cruise ship in the vicinity, and Mexican maritime authorities working collaboratively. The coordinated response followed Princess Cruises’ standard protocol for overboard incidents. Despite the thorough search lasting over eight hours, the crew member was not recovered alive.
