A crew member went overboard from the Regal Princess cruise ship while the vessel was sailing off Mexico’s Caribbean coast. The ship had departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, July 11, 2026, on a seven-day Western Caribbean itinerary that included stops in Mexico, Belize, and Honduras.

Extended Search-and-Rescue Operation Involving Multiple Parties

The incident prompted an extensive search-and-rescue effort lasting more than eight hours. The operation involved the Regal Princess itself, another cruise ship in the vicinity, and Mexican maritime authorities who collaborated in the search.

Fatal Outcome and Impact on Cruise Itinerary

After a protracted search, Princess Cruises confirmed the crew member had died. The ship was en route

to the port of Cozumel when the incident occurred and canceled its scheduled stop there as a direct result of the overboard event.

Passenger Communication and Support Services

Passengers were kept continuously informed throughout the search process with hourly updates. Counseling services were made available onboard to support passengers during the incident. Passenger David Jimenez reported that the ship repeatedly slowed and circled the search area, stating, “At times the ship slowed down and went in circles. Then they would come back and circle again.” Jimenez also confirmed, “No details were given. We don’t know who he is,” and said, “They are following procedures but

kept people updated every hour.”

Jimenez, a veteran cruiser, added that such overboard incidents are rare.

Official Statement from Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises issued a statement expressing sympathies for the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by the situation. The cruise line confirmed it was providing support to the onboard team in response to the tragedy, stating, “Our thoughts are with the crew member, their family, and all those impacted by this situation. We are providing support to our onboard team.”

The cause of the crew member going overboard has not been disclosed, and the identity of the crew member remains unknown.
