Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW Airport) experienced a ground stop and subsequent ground delay starting at 5:30 p.m. on July 12, 2026, due to thunderstorms moving through the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported departures from the airport were delayed between 60 and 169 minutes. The ground stop at DFW Airport ended at 7:15 p.m., while the ground delay was scheduled to continue until 11:59 p.m. that same day.

Weather Conditions Prompt Operational Restrictions

The National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office forecasted a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. on July 12, 2026, with rain chances increasing to 60%

Sunday night. Thunderstorms were most likely to occur before 10 p.m., with additional rain possible overnight. Forecasted rainfall totals ranged from 0.1 to 0.25 inches, but thunderstorms might produce amounts above that range. Temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area reached near 97 degrees, with heat index values climbing to approximately 105 degrees. Winds shifted from south-southwest to east-southeast during the afternoon, remaining light.

Passenger Impact and Extended Weather Outlook

The ground stop and delay resulted in extended runway holding times for departing flights at DFW Airport, contributing to significant departure delays for passengers on July 12. Weather forecasts from KXAS-TV (NBC5) indicate a 40% chance of

showers and thunderstorms mainly after 10 a.m. on July 13, with highs expected near 93 degrees through midweek. There is a 20 to 30% chance of afternoon storms on July 14 and 15, with daytime temperatures rising to between 95 and 99 degrees from July 16 through July 18. Nighttime lows are forecast to remain between 76 and 79 degrees during this period.
