The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has raised serious concerns regarding the delays caused by the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) at border controls. According to WTTC’s analysis, these delays could put as many as 41 million visitor arrivals at risk during 2026, signaling a substantial potential disruption to travel flows across Europe.
Reports indicate that travelers may face extended waiting times at borders, with delays lasting up to three hours in some instances. These prolonged border processing times increase the likelihood of missed connections and longer transit durations for visitors entering the European Union. Such disruptions pose
notable challenges to the smooth movement of people and could have significant effects on tourism volumes.
