The Alberta government has introduced a comprehensive 30-year passenger rail master plan aiming to develop and enhance rail services across the province. This long-term strategy outlines major projects designed to expand and improve passenger rail options within Alberta.
Central to the plan are downtown-to-airport rail connections in both Edmonton and Calgary, identified as priority projects. These links are intended to provide direct transportation options between city centres and their respective airports, offering a potential new transit option for commuters and travelers.
