Fifty new flight routes will commence across Europe in October 2026 as the northern winter 2026-27 season begins, expanding connections across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, North America, and within Europe. Finnair will start daily flights between Helsinki Airport and Melbourne Airport via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport on October 25, 2026, operating Airbus A350 aircraft. The return service from Melbourne will begin the following day, offering fifth-freedom traffic rights between Bangkok and Melbourne and connections to approximately 90 European destinations through Helsinki.

Western Sydney International Airport Opens with Jetstar and Air New Zealand Routes

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will initiate passenger operations on October 25, 2026. Jetstar will operate the airport’s inaugural

flight from WSI to Gold Coast Airport on the same day, using Airbus A320 aircraft. Jetstar will offer up to 14 weekly flights from WSI to Melbourne, 4 weekly to Gold Coast, and 3 weekly to Brisbane. WSI will operate without a nighttime curfew, unlike Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport. Air New Zealand will launch three weekly Auckland-WSI flights on October 26, 2026, using A320 and A321 aircraft, while maintaining Auckland-SYD service, thus providing travelers two Sydney-area international gateways.

Etihad Airways Expands Middle East Network with New Destinations

Etihad Airways will introduce multiple new routes in October 2026. Weekly Abu Dhabi flights to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Airport

start on October 4 with A320 aircraft, increasing to twice weekly from October 25. The airline will also begin four weekly Abu Dhabi-Luxembourg flights using A321neo family aircraft, marking the first Middle Eastern airline service to Luxembourg. Additionally, Etihad will launch a four weekly service from Abu Dhabi to Calgary International Airport on October 25, 2026, with Boeing 787-9 aircraft, establishing the first nonstop connection between the Middle East and Western Canada. This route follows the December 2025 expansion of the Canada-UAE air services agreement allowing up to 35 weekly flights.

Lufthansa will resume five weekly Frankfurt-Kuala Lumpur flights on

October 25, 2026, operating Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Swiss International Air Lines will start five weekly Zurich-Bengaluru flights at the winter season start. British Airways will resume flights to Sri Lanka after 11 years, operating three weekly London Gatwick-Colombo routes starting October 23, 2026, with 777 aircraft.
