The World Travel Expo marked its 10th anniversary with a three-day event at Ayala Center Cebu from August 14 to 16, 2026. The expo’s theme, “Xtraordinary Journeys, Xceptional Memories,” focused on exploring travel stories and building connections between travelers and destinations.

World Travel Expo as a Tourism Platform

Organized by Ad Asia Events Group OPC, the expo gathered local and international destinations, tourism businesses, organizations, and communities from the Philippines. It serves as a platform for Cebu to showcase diverse tourism offerings, reach potential markets, and foster partnerships that support the growth of the Philippine tourism industry. The event also promotes Cebu as a leading hub for

Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).

Officials Emphasize the Expo’s Role in Tourism Development

Miles Caballero, Managing Director of Ad Asia Events Group OPC, reflected on the expo’s origins, stating, “When we started World Travel Expo, our hope was to create a place where people could discover new destinations, build meaningful connections, and experience the stories behind travel.” He added that the 10-year milestone showed how journeys are shaped by people united by shared goals.

Mia Faye D. Singson-Leon, President of HRRAC, highlighted tourism’s broad economic significance in Cebu, saying, “Because tourism is not just an industry that stands alone. Our tourism is connected to the economic lifeline

of this island. A visitor who comes to Cebu creates value far beyond a hotel booking or an airline ticket.” The keynote speech from the DOT Region VII Regional Director OIC urged outbound travelers to bring visitors to Cebu, stating, “Every traveler abroad should bring home at least one visitor… Bring them to Cebu. Bring them to our heritage district. Outbound creates movement; inbound creates the momentum that no one can stop. Reciprocity keeps the cycle stable.”

Rowena “Weng” Montecillo, Cebu’s Provincial Tourism Officer, described the expo as a critical venue for promoting Cebu’s tourism. She said it offers Cebu

the chance to connect with markets, establish partnerships, and create opportunities for local enterprises and communities.

Economic Impact and Community Benefits

Tourism in Cebu contributes economically beyond traditional sectors like hotels and airlines. The continuing expansion of tourism supports local industries including tour guides, transport services, food establishments, and handicraft artisans across Central Visayas. The World Travel Expo facilitates strengthening these linkages by gathering diverse stakeholders under one event.

Cebu’s role as a MICE hub is reinforced by events such as the expo, which attract corporate gatherings alongside leisure travelers, helping convert short-term visitors into sustained economic partnerships.

Traveler Advantages at the Expo

Visitors to the expo could plan trips

and access exclusive travel deals by engaging directly with top resort brands, tour operators, airlines, and local travel agencies. The event offered unique perks including staycation savings, extended voucher validity, and bundled packages for family attractions and dining. The expo streamlined trip organization by presenting diverse options in one location, making travel planning more accessible across the three-day event.

Supporting Statements from Key Officials

Miles Caballero noted, “This 10-year celebration is a reminder that the best journeys are never created alone. They are shaped by people who come together with a common purpose and a shared belief in what can be achieved.”

Rowena Montecillo said,

“It has provided an important platform for Cebu to showcase its diverse tourism offerings, connect with potential markets, build partnerships, and create opportunities for our local tourism enterprises and communities.”
